Six Iconic Sex Positions
We all have our go-to positions, but trying something different can help you access new sensation and pleasure. You also don’t need a partner to try new positions! Here are six great positions to try for oral, anal and everything in between.
Leg Up:
Solo: Lying on your back, move your knees towards your chest and hold them with one hand. Use the other hand to masturbate.
Partner: Use both hands to hold your knees whilst your partner kneels in front of you, massaging/touching/penetrating areas that feel good.
Why you might love it: Holding your knees can allow a partner to get deeper, accessing sensitive areas.
Side Slide:
Solo: Lie on your side and bring your upper leg towards your chest then reach towards your genitals and explore from there.
Partner: Set yourself up in the Solo position above then have your partner lie behind you, also on their side, touching/stroking/thrusting in a way that feels good for both of you.
Why you might love it: Like a sexy spoon, in this position you can feel it all – your partner’s body on your back or front (depending on whether you’re big or lil’ spoon), neck kisses, and with a free hand, the person behind can also touch sensitive areas on the front side of their partners’ body.
Doggy:
Solo: On all fours, reach between your legs or around your back with your hands or a toy.
Partnered: One person is on all fours whilst the other is kneeling behind.
Why you might love it: Doggy can feel grounded and steady. This is great for anyone who likes more vigorous thrusting, active movement, greater control, and it can also allow for deeper penetration (plus, a lot of people find this position aesthetically hot).
Missionary:
Solo: Whilst missionary is a traditionally partnered pose, it’s also a classic for solo sex. Lie on your back, get comfy, and with your hands free use toys, sensory items or go analog with finger/hand stimulation.
Partner: Have one person lie down on their back (somewhere comfy!) with the other on top, facing their partner
Why you might love it: This position allows for full-body contact, more touch (free hands!) and direct stimulation of some of our most sensitive erogenous regions (neck, nipples, clit, you name it!).
Straddle:
Solo: This one’s for the grinders. You do not need someone else to get off in this position, in fact this is a crowd favourite for solo sex. Try straddling a pillow, toy or even just your hand, and thrust or gyrate your hips.
Partner: One person lies on the back while the other sits on top moving hips back and forth, bouncing up and down or trying a body roll.
Why you might love it: The grinding action of moving back and forward can can stimulate all the sensitive spots. It often feels great for both parties and it's a great position to play with speed and rhythm. Take turns being more active (this one’s extra hot for those who love eye contact).
Face Down:
Solo: Lie face down, and reach behind or in front of your body to masturbate.
Partner: One person lies face down, as described above, while the other partner sits next to you or between their partner’s legs.
Why you might love it: This is great for those who love the feeling of pressure as well as internal and external stimulation. It’s also really good for anyone into back and butt play, allowing greater access to this sensitive erogenous zone.
